But, enough about books … Other things have words, too, right? Like … songs!

If you’re anything like me, there are songs that you love because of their lyrics; writers you admire because their songs have depth, meaning, or just a sheer playfulness that has nothing to do with the tunes.

So, today’s question?

  • What songs … either specific songs, or songs in general by a specific group or writer … have words that you love?
  • Why?
  • And … do the tunes that go with the fantastic lyrics live up to them?

———–

Besides books, music is my favorite thing in the world and lyrics have a lot to do with making songs my favorites. The one singer who writes lyrics that I can relate to almost every single time is Taylor Swift. She writes song that are real and about being a teenager, not just about sex, drugs, and partying. Out of all her songs, my favorites are White Horse, Fifteen, and Teardrops on my Guitar.

But she’s not the only singer who’s lyrics I like/relate to. Ones on my mind right now are The Last Night by Skillet, Carry You Home by The Breakdown, Gives You Hell by All American Rejects, Straightjacket Feeling by All American Rejects, and most of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’ songs.

So what lyrics do you relate to?

I’m always putting songs to shows or books and stuff, and I don’t personally relate to them, but I like it more b/c I can picture “someone” in my head who goes with, you know? I love music though….music and reading. It’s great.

Gives You Hell by AAR is a new favorite of mine at the moment. SOOOOO good.

I used to relate to a couple Green Day songs, like 16 and Paper Lanterns. Not as much now that I’m older, but I still love them.

I like Taylor’s Swift Teardrops on my guitar, it’s really relatable. I love James Blunt songs, the lyrics never fail to impress me, even though sometimes I don’t get them.

I like Gives You Hell by AMR’s also. I haven’t ever been a big fan of their work collectively though. I enjoy Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis songs. 🙂
